Introducing Bio Leaf Active Stratum Soil!
Bio Leaf Stratum is the latest craze in plant substrates! It was originally created as an aquatic substrate (most popularly by Fluval) and is made from a mix of fertile volcanic ash, natural soil and clay, rich in humic acids.
It contains many essential plant nutrients your plants need to thrive including nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus and trace elements such as calcium, magnesium, iron and manganese. The stratum releases these nutrients slowly over time, providing a constant source of nourishment for your plants!
The porous structure of stratum allows for excellent water circulation around the plants roots, which helps to prevent root rot and encourages healthy root growth.
One great benefit of using Stratum is that there is no pre-preparation required before use! It's actually recommended to not rinse it before use as you may wash away those essential nutrients and can weaken the structure of the stratum faster.
How can Stratum be used?
Stratum is a very versatile substrate that can be used either on its own, or mixed with other substrates of your choosing!
Propagation: Stratum is most commonly used as a medium for plant propagation. It's a popular choice for plants that can be notoriously hard to propagate & alocasia corms. As it does break down over time, it's highly recommended to mix it with another substrate (most commonly perlite) to help lengthen its life!
Plant rehabilitation: It's also popularly used to help rehabilitate plants after they have suffered from root rot.
On its own: Stratum can also be used on its own!
How to feed & water with Stratum?
Though Stratum does contain its own nutrients, it is recommended that you continue to feed your plants as you regularly would, using a fertiliser such as Grow.it Plant Fuel or Growth Technology.
If you are using it for propagation, we recommend supplementing your cuttings with a rooting hormone such as Grow.it Root Fuel or Growth Technology CCS to help boost the new root growth.
In terms of watering your plants, you'll be able to tell when it needs watering as the Stratum will turn a lighter grey colour. Make sure to not overwater with Stratum as it holds a decent volume of water for a fairly long time. You also don't need a reservoir as such for this reason too!
