GT Silica is also affectionately known as 'nature's bodyguard'.
Silicon is a beneficial plant nutrient found in virtually all soils in nature, but is missing in our indoor environments.
Adding GT Silica to your plant care routine will help to give your plants all sorts of benefits & protections that they are normally provided by nature. It does this by making them not only physically stronger, but also more resilient towards pests, diseases and environmental stress.
Silicon will strengthen plant cell walls and become a barrier against water loss, fungal infection, particularly mildews and insect & mite attack.
Silicon belongs to a class of plant nutrients termed “beneficial nutrients”. These nutrients are not totally essential to the plant, but the plant will grow better if it is present. It has even been claimed that the absence of silicon from nutrient solutions constitutes a form of stress to the plant!
What is in GT Silica?
GT Silica is a concentrated blend of silicic acid and potassium hydroxide , known as potassium silicate, which is considered the superior form of silica for plants.

What are the benefits?
Plants deposit silicon in their cell walls, which in turn strengthens them, acting as a barrier between the inside of the plant cell and the environment.
The stronger this barrier, the better a plant can resist attacks from insects and fungi and also the increased cell wall rigidity gives better tolerance to heat- and water stress.
Another major benefit of silicon is that it can help to slow/prevent the browning on variegated leaves, a dream for variegation lovers! It helps strengthen the variegated parts of their leaves, which are considered a weak point in the plant as they don't have any chlorophyll.
How to use Silica
To get the most out of Silica, it's recommended that you use it with each watering.
- Add up to 5ml per litre of water for optimal benefits.
- If you would like your product to last a little longer, any dilution from 1ml per litre will give your plants plenty of benefits!
Every bottle comes with a free pipette to make mixing even easier!
Silica must not be mixed in with other nutrient solutions. Water with Silica first, wait 20 minutes or so and then water with your usual nutrient mixture.
The reason for this is that it will precipitate from the solution and be unavailable to the plant.
